6 BOOKS I CAN’T WAIT TO READ AND TALK ABOUT

Sharing is caring!

Generally speaking, I’m somewhat of a minimalist. My monthly routine is to go through my tiny NYC space and toss out anything old, worn-out or not recently used. I’m good at this and since practice makes perfect, I’m now ruthless; except when it comes to books of course.  I stopped counting years ago – but believe me,  my TBR pile is huge.

I’ll admit that discovering new books has a life of its own and my wish list grows continuously. I’ll often find myself hunting for books when I have perfectly good ones at home. Perhaps I should try to curb these book cravings, but I don’t, because there is nothing better than browsing through the shelves of my favorite books store.

Thankfully, I have a great way to channel all this book energy; a website and blog dedicated to all things books – especially book clubs – which means not only book suggestions but food too. Fun!

Below, I’m giving you a peek at a few books I can’t wait to read.

Mischling by Affinity Konar

The Why: I think it’s important to read about the atrocities of war, in particular, the Holocaust – but other wars and crimes against humanity too. The writing style of this book is beautiful, but it also touches on Auschwitz horrors that I had not read of before. (More about this book here)

The Velvet Hours by Alyson Richman

The Why: I read The Lost Wife by this author and couldn’t get enough of it. It was the kind of book you wanted to read slowly – so you could enjoy every facet of the journey. I love throwing a few books like this into my reading mix – they are perfect for rainy weekends when you want to lounge about and relax. (More about this book here)

“Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” –  Golda Meir

Good Me Bad Me by Ali Land

The Why: This book promises to be impossible to put down. I love when a character struggles with their dark side. I also love reading about dysfunctional families. So this book was pretty hard to resist after reading the summary. It’s about a 15-year-old girl whose mother is a serial killer. This young girl turns her mother in and then worries if it is in her genes to become a killer like her mother. (More about this book here)

The One-in-a-Million Boy By Monica Wood

The Why: I hesitated adding this book to my list. But, after talking to a friend who is an avid reader, I moved it quickly to the top. She raved about it. A young boy befriends and helps a 104-year-old woman. From what I hear it’s a book that tugs at your heart – for me, a book like this is hard to resist. (More on this book here)

“You can waste your lives drawing lines. Or you can live your life crossing them.” -Shonda Rhimes

The Last Days of Night by Graham Moore

The Why: This book sounds like a gem. It’s set in the late 1800s and based on real events – my favorite kind of historical fiction. I happen to think this period in American history is fascinating and not too frequently written about. From the book summary, George Westinghouse and Thomas Edison had one fierce battle over what is now considered the ordinary household light bulb. (More on this book here)

Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan

The Why: Every bookshelf needs a little comic relief. I was delighted with China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan – because really –  who doesn’t love reading about the excesses of the rich?  So this sequel, Rich People Problems, definitely goes on my best vacation reads. I’m sure it will be just as humorous, engaging and outrageous as the last. (More on this book here)
