Book Review

(by- Andrea)

Hazel Gaynor is one of my favorite authors, and I have enjoyed many of her books. This latest book is a fascinating story about a British missionary school in China taken over by the Japanese army during WWll. After the Japanese gain control of the school, it is up to the teachers and students to join together and survive this terrible situation.

The main protagonists are a heroic teacher, Elsbeth, and a brave 10-year-old girl, Nancy. This story stayed with me for quite some time after putting it down. I believe the bravery shown by all the characters and their compassion for one another made the most significant impact. They showed resourcefulness, resilience and became a family in these most desperate circumstances. I loved this book!
