I couldn’t resist jumping on the bandwagon of this popular series by Diana Gabaldon. I resisted for two reasons, the length of the book at over 800 pages and the idea of time travel. Curiosity got the better of me and I dove in head first! I was pleasantly surprised. Gabaldon is an excellent storyteller who draws you in and has you fall in love with the characters, their culture, and country. You are so absorbed in the story you forget its dealing with time travel and find the historical aspect engrossing. It transports you to the picturesque highlands where you are treated to one adventure after the other. It’s filled with quite a bit of romance which includes castles, gallant men in kilts and the Scottish countryside. Need I say more? There is violence which could be offensive, but I felt it was keeping with the time period of the story. If the book were a little shorter I would have given it five stars. I found this book to be a great escape and I look forward to the next one in the series.Back.
