The Violet Hour

This book will pique your interest right from the start with incredible pacing, strong balanced action scenes and terrific character development, all flowing and intertwining to create a suspenseful absorbing read. I liked the juxtaposition of the Gothic nature of the story with the clean writing style of the author; it made for a thrilling but not overpowering read. For me at least too much action becomes tedious and loses its impact. The character and setting descriptions were rich and detailed but not overdone, just enough to move the plot along. Its always great to find a character whose profile is out of the box and the female villain in this story fits the bill. Even with the handicap of being slightly one dimensional, she gave a stellar performance in some of the more dramatic and violent scenes. Cal on the other hand has a fully developed character and is just one of those guys who tries to do the right thing all the time, despite his shady family history. Mix these two together along with some other very interesting characters and you find yourself turning page after page. I recommend this book to those who like fast paced thrillers.
