Big City, Bad Blood
Reviewed by- Andrea (2010/10/21, 07:18 AM)
Shortlisted for the 2008 Barry Award for Best 1st Novel, “Big City, Bad Blood” by Sean Chercover delivers an excellent crime story. The reader is treated to a Nelson DeMille-like read riddled with wit and sarcasm. Filled with likeable characters, this fast-paced book has all the components to keep the pages turning. Set in the windy city of Chicago, newspaper reporter turned private eye Ray Dudgeon, brings to life a story which involves the mob, the FBI, some sketchy police work, and of course, a tumultuous private life. Though sometimes a bit cliché, it is easily forgiven because of the clever and skillful writing. It’s a solid, entertaining, and enjoyable read. The follow-up book, “Trigger City” also by Chercover, was shortlisted for the Barry Award in 2009. This is an author I will enjoy following.Back.
