The Imperfectionists

THE IMPERFECTIONIST by Tom Rachman is an excellent debut novel. I enjoyed the fresh new voice which delivered an amusing and intriguing read. The book focuses upon an international newspaper based in Rome, struggling to survive in tough economic times. As the outdated paper fails to catch up with the changing tides, it begins to unravel both financially and structurally. Rachman brings his quirky and sad cast of characters to life, as they each battle their own personal demons. Each chapter of the book is devoted to a different character, allowing Rachman to slowly reveal the plot. I was left wondering how the contrasting stories would all come together. It was a pleasure to read how the character's lives twisted and eventually intertwined. I truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.Back.
