The Chaperone

“The Chaperone” will touch many nerves and entertain from start to finish. The book follows Cora as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery. It shows how the past shapes the future and the young challenge and push it forward. It takes place in the year 1922 as Cora agrees to chaperon Louise Brooks, not a fictional character, but a real life silent firm star of the 20s and 30s to New York to attend the distinguished Denishawn dance school. The dynamics between these two women of different generations is well done, complex and realistic. The author also exposes the scorn society felt for homosexuals and orphans and other issues of the closed judgmental mind. Recommend for those who enjoy a good saga and those who have an interest in the injustices of the past.Back.
