The Dog Stars

Let me start by stating futuristic books are not something I usually enjoy. What differentiates this book is the setting is post-apocalyptic, but the story itself is about relationships. It centers on the connection we have with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. The book begins when the majority of the world has been eliminated by pandemic flu outbreak. Two endearing characters Hig and Bangley, are thrown together after their worlds fall apart. They are an unlikely pair, but together they create a fortress from what’s left of the world and fight for their everyday survival together. This is a poignant story with embraceable characters and a great storyline. Heller’s writing style spot on. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and it would make an excellent Book Club choice.Back.
