The Indian Bride
by Karin Fossum

PBR Review A wonderfully written Inspector Sejer mystery centered in a small Norwegian village filled with suspense and intrigue. Itís not your typical mystery. Rather than tracking down clues and eliminating suspects the heart of the book centers around Gunder, a lonely middle-aged bachelor who is somewhat challenged and looking for companionship. As the story unfolds, the author's writing style allows you to feel and understand Gunderís angst and the intimacy of the village life. What lies ahead is an excellent murder mystery investigation headed by inspector Sejer. Be prepared for the twists and turns as he attempts to solves this unspeakable crime which rocks the community. It fast-paced and filled with surprises. We are looking forward to more from this author.Back.
Talking Points: Although a great mystery it's also a study in the fragility of being human. Several threads and characters of this book will provoke thought and stimulate conversation. Book clubs will enjoy discussing the complexity of small town life and it's impact on a murder investigation. Gunder is a beautifully drawn character, but also one whose actions can be questioned on many levels with different interpretations likely. The same can be said for several relationships in the story. This is the fourth book in this series but it does very well as a standalone novel. It's very nicely written with great character development.
PBR Reader Comments:

This is not your typical crime novel. It's a beautifully written mystery set in a Norwegian village. I fell in love with the characters, especially Gunder who I found myself rooting for. It will keep you guessing until the end. It really draws you in.
