The Art of Racing in the Rain
by Garth Stein

PBR Review I loved this feel good original book. Garth Stein not only entertained me, but gave me a new found appreciation for my dog. Nonanimal lovers donít be put off, itís not an animal story. It's about life, love and relationships. The central character for this story is a lovable, devoted dog named Enzo (who is also the narrator). Told from his point of view brings a very interesting perspective about human behavior to this heartfelt and genuine story about life and its struggles. Rarely does a book bring me to tears or make me laugh out loud, and this book achieved both. Although I would categorize this as a light read it has a lot of substance and several messages throughout which make you ponder some life questions. The characters are believable and somewhat flawed for a realistic view on life. Not only do you fall in love with Enzo but you will be rooting for his owner Denny (somewhat of an underdog, sorry couldn't resist).Back.
Talking Points: This book is original and entertaining. Although told from the perspective of a dog,it's really about love, loss, family and life's lessons; all great topics for discussions. What makes it exceptional is the writing style, which allows the reader to experience the emotions. Be prepared to laugh and cry with this one. This book will appeal to book clubs that enjoy a light but emotionally engaging story.

Heartwarming and definitely a surprise. Didn't initially want to buy this one (narrated by a dog?) but so glad I did. A must for every well stocked book shelf.

This book really surprised me. When I first heard about it I was skeptical reading a book with a dog as a narrator. Stay with it. It is truly a heart warming and insightful book. I laughed, cried and pondered life. "Your car goes where your eyes go" Such is life!
