The Shadow of the Wind
by Carlos Ruiz Fafon
From The Jacket:Before Daniel knows it, his seemingly innocent quest has opened a door into one of Barcelona's darkest secrets, an epic story of murder, magic, madness, and doomed love, and before long he realizes that if he doesn't find out the truth about Julian Carax, he and those closest to him will suffer horribly.
Best book I read in 2006. Loved the gothic feel of the novel.

Our book club read this book a few months back. There are ten of us. Only three people two besides the one who selected it liked this book, the rest either did not finish it or thought it was not worth reading.

This book never grabbed me. The only reason I gave it three stars was because it was beautifully written with great descriptive narative.

This book was highly recommended to me by a bookseller in a small boutique shop. It is possible that my expectations were too high as I was very disappointed. The writing was very dry with very little storyline. It just fell flat.
