Astrid and Veronika
by Linda Olsson
fiction
From The Jacket:With extraordinary emotional power, Olssons stunningly well crafted debut novel recounts the unusual and unexpected friendship that develops between two women. Set against a haunting Swedish landscape, this is a lyrical and meditative novel of love and loss.
This story unfolds at a gentle pace. The author touches on some very sensitive issues like suicide and infanticide with grace and elegance. I was surprised at how much I liked this book. Its a story of a brief but life changing relationship between two women written in a very serene way.

A beautiful novel written in a gentle prosaic style. You witness the friendship between two women, both withdrawn from the world develop and deepen. It is heartwarming to watch as they become an inspiration to each other. My only problem was that towards the end of the book the narrative become very predictable.

Although this was a quick read (I read it in one sitting) I am giving it five stars. It was a touching story which I really enjoyed. Don't miss this book.
