The Castaways
by Elin Hilderbrand
fiction
From The Jacket:Greg and Tess MacAvoy are one of four prominent Nantucket couples who count each other as best friends. As pillars of their close knit community, the MacAvoys, Kapenashes, Drakes, and Wheelers are important to their friends and neighbors, and especially to each other. But just before the beginning of another idyllic summer, Greg and Tess are killed when their boat capsizes during an anniversary sail. As the warm weather approaches and the island mourns their loss, nothing can prepare the MacAvoy's closest friends for what will be revealed. Once again, Hilderbrand masterfully weaves an intense tale of love and loyalty set against the backdrop of endless summer island life.
This was an entertaining light read with a plot that kept you reading. However, I found myself just wanting to know the end and skip right through the rest. With many main characters it was almost confusing at times. Also, the unhappiness and discontent that her characters have with their marriages and lives was somewhat unreal and almost unbelievable. I didn't finish this book feeling fulfilled.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were very well developed and each had a distinct likable personality. Looking forward to this author's next book.

This book is easy to read but very intriguing; a light read with depth of character and plot. I love the way as Elin Hilderbrand draws you in, she reveals things in such a way that you just have to keep reading. I also love the way she creates characters you can relate to. A good summer read.
