This book is fantastic! Barbara Kingsolver is a talented, skillful writer and an excellent storyteller. If you enjoyed The Poisonwood Bible, you will love this book. It has the same literary magic.
I opted for the audio version, and the narration was excellent. The story follows the life of a young boy known as Demon Copperhead from the Appalachian mountains.
Raised by a young, poor, unmarried mother with limited opportunities, he becomes trapped in the foster care system and endures countless cruelties and struggles.
Kingsolver brings a diverse cast of interesting characters to life, but Demon will capture your heart.
This book provides ample opportunities for engaging discussions on child labor, addiction, abuse, love, loss, and the strength of the human spirit.
