Book Review by - linda
I love historical fiction and really enjoyed the flashbacks to the time of the Salem witch trials; Katherine Howe provided wonderful insight and details of everyday life during this period of history. She also seamlessly jumped between present day and the 1600’s. With the exception of the author’s spelling of the Boston accent, which was frustrating to read, this part of the novel was compelling, interesting and left me wanting more. It’s amazing that the cruelty and persecution of innocent people was allowed to exist. I struggled however with the present day portion of this book; it just seemed to drag on with very little movement or excitement in the plot and poor character development, there was nothing to draw me in and too many coincidences to tie various threads together. Although I can’t recommend this book I will read Kathryn Howe again.Back.
