A Little Life is a book you carry with you long after reading its final page. Spanning decades, the novel follows four college friends - Willem, Malcolm, Jean-Baptiste, and Jude - as they navigate adulthood in New York City. While it begins as a story of youthful ambition, it gradually focuses on Jude, a brilliant lawyer whose childhood trauma threatens to consume him.

What makes this a masterpiece is the characters, the bonds between them, and the beautiful writing style, which is guaranteed to pull you in emotionally. There are a few caveats, however; it's dark and explores some tough themes such as self-harm and abuse. It's also a big book, 700+ pages, the pacing suffers a little becasue fo this, so it may not be for everyone. If your club is looking for a light read, this isn't it. But if you want a huge emotional experience, this is perfect.
