PBR Review: (by- Andrea)
From Scratch, a memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home, by Tembi Locke, is a remarkable book and one that I completely devoured. It addresses loss, grief, racism, family struggles, and more. Locke tells her own love story. While studying abroad in Florence, Italy, she meets her husband, Saro, and it's love at first sight. They build this wonderful life together, but their world falls apart when he's diagnosed with cancer. Their story is beautiful and sad, yet hopeful, as Tembi and her daughter build a new life together without Saro. It's one of my favorite books I've read this year, and it's a tear-jerker. I also watched the Netflix series, which is excellent. I highly recommend this as a Book Club selection. |
