Book Review

(by- Linda )

The Everlasting is a beautifully written and unique love story that follows Una and Owen Mallory. Sir Una Everlasting is a woman torn between love and her loyalty to her queen and country. She is a legendary lady-knight whose life and sacrifices have become the origin story of a nation. Owen Mallory, on the other hand, is a struggling historian obsessed with Una's tale. Born one thousand years before Una, he is mysteriously sent back in time to ensure that Una fulfills her tragic yet heroic destiny.

Together, they find themselves trapped in a recurring time loop influenced by an outside force - a malevolent, self-serving woman. As a result, they repeatedly experience the same story. I really enjoyed the time-travel aspect of the narrative; it allows you to witness the characters' struggle against their predetermined fate as they attempt to forge a different path. I was, of course, rooting for them and completely crestfallen with each setback they experienced.

One of the defining elements of this book is Alix E. Harrow's writing style. It is poetic and emotional, beautifully balancing tragedy with unexpected wit.

If you like character-driven stories with a touch of magic and emotion, this is a great choice. I loved it. Alis E. Harrow is fast becoming an auto read for me. I also loved The Starling House by this author.
