Horse

by Geraldine Brooks
Based on the remarkable true story of the record breaking thoroughbred Lexington, Horse is a novel of art and science, love and obsession, and our unfinished reckoning with racism.

Book Review

(by- Andrea )

I loved this book! It's the first book I've read by Geraldine Brooks, and I plan on reading more. She's won the Pulitzer prize and has several best-selling books. I'm so happy I found this new to me author.

Horse is based on a true story and tells the tale of the magnificent racehorse Lexington who is touted as the fastest racehorse in the world. The mystery begins in the present day when a young art historian finds an old painting of a horse from the 1850s and begins to research.

Using dual timelines, Brooks brings Lexington's story to life with her captivating storytelling and complex characters. The threads weave together perfectly as we learn of the cruelty of slavery in the 1850s and the present-day racism people are still facing.

Don't miss this one! Book Clubs will love this book and the conversations it will provoke.
