Theo of Golden

by Allen Levi
Book cover of Theo of Golden by Allen Levi, a literary fiction novel about a mysterious stranger who collects stories and brings connection and kindness to a small Southern town.

Book Summary

One spring morning, a stranger named Theo arrives in the small Southern city of Golden. He doesn't explain much about where he came from or why he's there, but when he visits the local coffeehouse, where pencil portraits of the people of Golden hang on the walls, he begins purchasing them, one at a time, and returning each portrait to the person depicted.

In exchange, Theo asks only for their story. As each person shares their past, long-held regrets surface, hidden truths are revealed, and quiet moments of grace begin to ripple through the community. One by one, lives are gently but profoundly changed.

At its heart, Theo of Golden is a story about connection, generosity, and what it means to truly see and be seen. It's a thoughtful, character-driven novel that lingers, reminding us how powerful it can be to listen, to share, and to care.
