Absolution

by Alice McDermott
Set in 1963 Saigon, this is a moving book with well-drawn characters you won't soon forget. It centers on the wives of men on assignment in Siagon during the early stages of the conflict and the expectations placed upon them.

Book Review

It's a beautifully written and thought-provoking story about the expectations of women whose husbands were on assignment in Saigon during the Vietnam War.

This is a moving book with well-drawn characters you'll think about for days. Tricia is a shy and naive young wife who arrives in Saigon with her husband.

As the story progresses, we follow Tricia as she navigates life in Saigon as a "helpmate" to her husband. This is a clear sign of the times as she faces new and unexpected social situations and dreams of being the perfect wife.

This is a slow-burning story about moral dilemmas that were evident during wartime, and it is sure to provide a lively discussion.
