Book Review |
At first, I was unsure if I liked this book. It's not my typical read, and it was hard for me to get into it initially. Mainly because I didn't like the protagonist, but with that said, it pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me think outside the box. When discussing this book with others, I found people either loved it or intensely disliked it. It's offbeat and written in the first person. The story begins when the narrator receives some money for a work assignment and decides to take a cross-country trip to figure out life. Her husband agrees to the trip, and she says goodbye to her child but never gets further than 30 minutes away. She stops at a small town, checks into a hotel, and tells her husband she's going to NY. Here begins her quest to find herself and explore her sexuality. She falls for a young man, and things happen. This book is not for everyone. It deals with addiction, mental health, and the loss of a child. However, I believe it will create an excellent discussion. |
