Book Review

(by- Linda )

"Who is lying in Sophie Strava's Count My Lies? The answer, it seems, is everyone. But the more compelling question is why? They lie and deceive one another and sometimes even themselves.

In fact, the narrative unfolds around themes of secrets, manipulation, and betrayal. At the center of it all is Sloane, the most proficient liar, who has a gift for reinventing herself. She lies about being a nurse to secure a nanny position with a wealthy family who has a young daughter with health challenges. Sloane yearns to become a genuine part of Violet and Jay's perfect life and wants to be just like Violet, going so far as to get the same hair color and style. But, as the story develops, we learn that Violet and Jay's life is anything but perfect. Violet wants nothing more than to escape a cheating husband who loves her only for her money.

Stava adds surprising twists to the story, especially one about halfway through that changes everything. The plot looks at themes of identity, obsession, and how family dynamics change, making this an intense and emotional read.
