If you want to go back in time and feel what it was like to live at the Barbizon Hotel in 1953, read this book - it's filled with so many interesting details of not just the hotel but the era and how difficult it was for women to be independent.
It's easy to forget the strictness of social norms back then; there were rules for everything. It makes you wonder how we arrived at our current set of standards. You'll also wonder if we've gone too far and what other social barriers are left to tear down. I thought the contrast to the present day was excellent, shedding a different light on past events and beliefs. There is also a mystery weaved into this book.
