The basic idea of The Dream Hotel is that in this near-future world, the government has an AI that monitors people's dreams to decide if they might commit a crime. The main character, Sara, is flagged and detained because the algorithm that analyzes her subconscious deems her a "risk." She's shipped off to this facility, the Dream Hotel, which is basically a jail where everyone is trying to prove they're innocent of something they haven't even done yet. This story is highly relevant today. It raises crucial questions about the data we share and our privacy. The characters are well-developed, and you really feel Sara's growing frustration and fear. If you're looking for a satisfying literary thriller, this book is a solid pick. The pacing was slightly off at times, especially in the middle. Still, the intriguing mystery and fresh storyline definitely make it worth recommending. |
