This is a story I will not easily forget. It's powerful, poignant, and unique, capturing the beauty of friendship, love, and family. The story follows a rich young boy whose best friend growing up was the son of his father's servant.
As we follow the two boys, first as children in Kabul in the 1970s and then as the Taliban takes over Afghanistan, the author gives us a highly emotional story of redemption and shows us the pain of war and conflict and the heavy burden of shame and remorse.
The author writes seamlessly and captures the effect war has on people. He also shines a light on the changes taking place in Afghan, including the politics, the status of females, and the discrimination of the different classes in society.
