Book Review

(by- Linda )

This story is an easy, engaging read - one that's perfect for the beach or travel bag. But it's also so much more, as it tackles some serious topics.

Chanel Cleeton uses two timelines. One takes place in 1964 and follows Isabel, the oldest daughter, as she travels to Barcelona to find her sister Beatriz, who is involved in espionage and the anti-Castro effort. Through Beatriz, Isabel, unhappily married, meets Diago and unwillingly finds herself attracted to him.

The other follows Alicia, Isabel's mother, who, fleeing a troubled marriage, has also traveled to Barcelona. But civil war is about to break out in Spain, and danger is everywhere. She also meets up with an old love interest.

Both stories are beautiful and inspiring. I loved learning about the Spanish Civil War. And I loved reading about these amazing women as they struggled with cultural and family expectations and self-fulfillment.

This book left me satisfied and wanting more from this author.
