The Sunshine Girls tells the story of a beautiful friendship between three women, BettyKay, Kitty, and Jenny. These young women come from very different walks but form strong bonds at a nursing school in the 1960s Midwest. As they go through life, the author explores the ups and downs of friendship and how it changes over time when marriage, careers, and family obligations come into the picture.
The author also does a great job of exploring the 60s and 70s and the impact of the Vietnam War on those who served in that war and the old style of Hollywood.
I also loved how the author gave each character a distinct voice. BettyKay was my favorite, I couldn't get enough of her, but each woman added something unique and valuable to the story.
Ultimately this is a story about strong women and true friendships. It's enjoyable, entertaining, and very informative if you don't know much about the 60s and 70s.
