The Winter Orphans
by Kristin Beck
PBR Review: (by- Linda )

This book jumped right to the top of my favorites list, and I found it impossible to get it out of my mind for days. Not only is this book captivating, but it's inspiring and informative. Most books take at least a few chapters to grab my interest - but not this one; I loved it from chapter one!

It's also based on actual events and people who showed incredible courage and bravery. Two awe-inspiring women helped smuggle young Jewish children out of Occupied France during WWII.

The story is bittersweet, showing triumph over evil and heartbreaking tragedy as the children and the brave people who help them face obstacles and hardships, some impossible to overcome.

It's also well-written and well-researched, and the author's notes are well worth your attention. They explain which characters and events are real and which were inspired by real people and events. Highly recommend.
