The family dynamics and drama are palpable in this emotional read. This debut novel is a story of a dysfunctional Palestine family and the struggles of Arab women living in America.
Isra is a young woman who enters an arranged marriage and moves to America. Here she begins her new life as a wife living with her inlaws. But she is alone, without her family, and at the mercy of her husband and mother-in-law. Her sole purpose is housework and childbearing.
Women's issues are at the forefront of today's news, and this story shines a light on several of them. This book offers a glimpse into the Arab/American woman and her struggle to assimilate into American life. Also, If you enjoy learning about different cultures, you'll find this a fascinating read and will provide lively discussion for a book club meeting.
