With a cast of diverse and beautifully flawed characters and an intriguing plot, Ann Patchett skillfully stirs up your emotions. She creates a story that provokes thought on many different levels. Her writing style flows, making it the perfect backdrop for an intense story. The story's premise is terrorists taking over a social event to capture the country's president. However, the president is not there, so a four-month standoff begins with the government. After a few weeks, everyone begins to enjoy life - hostages and terrorists alike. What unfolds is a beautiful tale of human bonding and friendship. |
