Martha Hall Kelly once again delivers an engaging novel. This one is set on Martha's Vineyard and weaves together dual timelines from 2016 and 1942. Fans of WWII stories will love this story since the narrative is inspired by Kelly's own family history on the vineyard. Copper Pond Farm, a small family-owned property, serves as the backdrop. In 1942, as the Smith family battles to keep their business afloat amid wartime hardships, the army arrives at their farm, and the fear of enemy invasion tests their fortitude. In 2016, Marigold visits Copper Pond Farm for a painting lesson with the current owner, where she discovers family secrets and the difficult decisions made during the war. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction centered on community, friendship, and family. It has a charming setting and well-developed characters, and offers much to discuss and appreciate. |
