Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage

I couldn't stop reading Belle Burden's memoir "Strangers" about the dissolution of her 20-year marriage. It was heartfelt, brutally honest, and emotional.

While quarantining on Martha's Vineyard during the pandemic, Belle receives a phone call from a man exclaiming that her husband, James, is having an affair with his wife. Belle is blindsided by this revelation and then again when he tells her he's leaving her and the children to be with the other woman.

The book follows her journey of self-discovery after her life falls apart and she's left on her own to raise their children. It chronicles her resilience, tenacity, and the hardships of navigating single life in her couples-world. She gives an inside glimpse of her relationship pre- and post-divorce with grace and empathy, and it would make an excellent Book Club pick.
