It’s summer, and the best reading season has officially started. Although this time of year is notorious for light beachy reads, I suggest what’s really important, is books that are equal parts light and engaging.
Light means it’s easy to read even when the ocean breeze or a cocktail or two are vying for your attention. And engaging means you may not want to stop reading even when you’re certain it’s time to slather on more of that protective suntan lotion.

The fact of the matter is, many of the ever-evolving books coming to market will catch and hold your attention. And as much as reading is a part of summer, be it at the beach, on the porch or during a family camping trip, happy reading means variety.
Seriously, you’re missing a lot if you don’t mix things up. I know, because sometimes I have to remind myself to do this. I really love historical fiction, but since reading is something I do a lot, I feel like I need to detach from what’s normal at times. I’m always glad when I do.
So, with the arrival of the first heat wave, I break out the margaritas and sunglasses and put my book-obsessed mind to work. Not that I’m complaining, I can think of no better way to cap off a beach or vacation bag than a good book.
To be perfectly honest, I’m more likely to make room for a good book than most any other item – except maybe shoes. I love shoes. But, all kidding aside, I do tend to think of books as a necessity – most avid readers do, and it would be a little bit depressing to go off without them.
So whether you’re looking to add to your reading collection or are starting from scratch, check out some of the latest books hitting the shelves – some I’ve read and loved, some I can’t wait to start. I navigated the Internet and sifted through a lot of reviews and websites to put together this list.
