Sharing is caring!

It sounds cliché, but there is a certain genius about reading that works. It’s hard to put a finger on it, but books can take you anywhere, anytime, especially the extra special ones that are captivating and hard to forget.

A particular genre may not work for you every time, but there’s a lot of good reading happening.

Keep in mind, this is coming from someone who reads a lot, but all told, it’s possibly the best way to idle away the time.

I’m simply saying – I have a good relationship with books, a long-standing one; we never seem to tire of each other. I don’t get a huge adrenaline rush from reading, but I do get emotionally invested and inspired.

Now, most of the time, it’s Historical Fiction that pulls me in. I find the storylines powerful and profound, and I love being immersed in different eras and cultures. It’s a wonderful way to see life from a different perspective and appreciate how change happens.

Still, what every avid reader needs is diversity. I think you know what I mean.

You pick up a book, one you couldn’t wait to start. It’s your favorite author or genre, then – nothing.  It greets you with blah!  Well, when my reading dips into feeling ho-hum and stops speaking to me, I typically turn to mysteries and thrillers.  They always deliver a fantastic diversion.
Maybe I like Mysteries because I’m curious and love a good puzzle, and looking for clues and trying to figure out the twists and turns or playing detective and guessing the culprit, satisfies this curiosity. And, it’s certainly a safe way to get some thrills, which indulges my conservative side.

Still, much like historical fiction, mysteries explore humanity and examine the human condition. There is always a villain to remind us of the evil in the world. There is always the good guy to fight for what’s right. There is always a crime, and most importantly, there is always justice; life is good  – balance is restored.

If you are a mystery fan or your reading needs a pick me up, and you like the idea of trying something new, take a look at the best mysteries and thrillers I’ve read lately, and maybe hang out with one of them for a while. They are all good, and there is something for everyone.

Happy Reading,

Linda
